Akshaya Tritiya is an auspicious day that falls on the Tritiya tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Vaishakha, which usually falls in late April or early May.

The word "Akshaya" means "eternal" or "never diminishing" in Sanskrit, and the day is considered auspicious for starting new ventures and making investments. It is believed that any venture started on this day will bring good fortune and prosperity.

  • Lord Vishnu's Avatar Parasuram the preserver of the universe, was born on this day

  • The River Ganges descended from heaven to earth on this day.

  • Pandavas received the Akshaya Patra, a vessel that would never be empty of food, on this day.

Celebrations of Akshaya Tritiya vary by region, but common practices include buying gold or other valuables, performing puja (worship), and making donations to charity. In some regions, people also observe fasts and offer food to the poor.

Many legends and stories are associated with Akshaya Tritiya, and one of the most popular ones is the story of Lord Krishna and Sudama.

According to the legend, The story of Krishna and Sudama is a well-known and beloved tale in Hindu mythology. Sudama was a poor Brahmin who was a childhood friend of Lord Krishna. Despite their different circumstances, the two remained close friends throughout their lives.

One day, Sudama decided to visit Lord Krishna at his palace in Dwaraka. Sudama was very poor and had nothing to offer Lord Krishna, so he brought with him a small bag of flattened rice (poha) as a gift.

When Sudama arrived at the palace gates, he was stopped by the guards because he looked so poor and shabby. However, when Lord Krishna heard that his old friend had come to see him, he immediately ran out to greet Sudama with great affection and embraced him warmly.

Krishna then took Sudama to his palace and treated him with great honour and respect. Sudama was overwhelmed by Krishna's generosity and kindness, and he felt ashamed of the small gift he had brought.

However, when Krishna saw the small bag of flattened rice, he eagerly took it from Sudama and ate a handful of it with great relish. Krishna explained that he considered this simple gift to be more valuable than all the wealth in the world because it had been given with love and devotion.

Krishna and Sudama spent the rest of the day reminiscing about their childhood and discussing their lives since they had last seen each other. As Sudama was leaving, Krishna gave him many valuable gifts and treasures, but Sudama refused to take them, saying that he had only come to see his friend and not to ask for anything.

As Sudama was walking back to his village, he realized that his poverty had been transformed into great wealth and prosperity. When he arrived home, he found that his old hut had been replaced by a magnificent palace, and his wife and children were dressed in fine clothes and surrounded by wealth and luxury. This happened on the day of Akshaya Tritiya.

May the blessings of Lord Vishnu be with you on this auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya. May you be blessed with good health, wealth, and prosperity.
