Jyotirlingas are manifestations of Lord Shiva in the form of Lingas. They are Swayambhu or self-manifested Lingas.
Jyoti means light and linga means Lord shiva. A Jyotirlinga is a pillar of light that houses the energy of the Supreme Lord.
There are 12 such jyotirlingas:

Light, symbolised by the Jyotirlinga, drives away darkness from our lives. One attains liberation or moksha by visiting all 12 Jyotirlingas.
When we draw a line over the Jyotirlinga temples on the map of India, we get the shape of a conch shell.
