Piplaad is regarded to be one of Lord Shiva's avatars. He was the son of the sage Dadhichi and his wife, Lopamudra. However, the sage had to leave his home before the birth of Piplaad. As
Piplaad got older, He questioned the gods as to why his father had abandoned him before his birth. They said that this was due to Shani's placement in his father's horoscope. This made Piplaad angry, and he cursed Shani. As a result, Shani began to descend from His heavenly abode and sought Piplaad for forgiveness.
Piplaad decided to forgive Shani Dev on the condition that he never bother anyone under the age of sixteen. Shani accepted this condition. Even today, followers worship the Piplaad form of Lord Shiva to obtain relief from the Shani dosha.
