Sacred Stories of Mahashivaratri!!!

Maha Shivaratri is the day when Lord Shiva first appeared in form of Jyotirlinga.

Amid a debate between Lord Vishnu and Brahma regarding who was more powerful than the other, Lord Shiva suddenly showed up in the form of the Infinite Jyotirlinga.

Lord Brahma and Vishnu were shocked to see that. To find out about the start and end of the infinite jyotirlinga, Brahma went up, and Lord Vishnu went down. But it was all for nothing because they couldn't figure out where Infinite Jyotirlinga began or ended. They went back to the place where they began.

Lord Shiva came out of the Lingam and said, "He is the most powerful of the three."

At last, they bowed to the infinite Jyotirlinga.

On Mahashivratri, Lord Shiva is said to have first danced the Tandava Nritya, the primordial creation, preservation, and destruction ritual. Through this act of devotion, Lord Shiva averted the destruction of the universe.

Shiva granted Shakti's avatar Paravati's wish to marry him on Mahashivarathri.
