Shantha - Lord Rama's sister.

King Dasaratha and Kousalya had an elder daughter before Lord Rama was born. The girl was very beautiful and very intelligent.

King Rompad of Angadesh and his wife Vershini, who was the sister of Queen Kousalya, were childless and expressed their desire to Dasaratha to adopt Shanta. Since Rompad was Dasaratha's best friend, he could not deny Rompad's request.

Shantha became the princess of Angadesh and lived happily with her adopted parents.

Angadesh was cursed to suffer drought and famine due to the negligent act of King Rompad. King Rompad managed to bring the Rishi Rishyasringa to perform poojas and break the spell of the curse given by Lord Indra.

Rishyasringa, the son of the sage Vibandaka, was the greatest scholar in the Treta yuga for performing yajnas.

Later, Rishi Rishyasringa married Shanta and lived happily in Angadesh. Angadesh was also fertile and the people lived there happily and peacefully.

The same Rishi Rishyasringa performed Putrakameshti yajna for King Dasaratha successfully.

Shanta and Rishyasringa's temples were found in two places, one in Kullu of Himachal Pradesh and another temple in Sringeri, Karnataka.
