The heart of Shree Krishna!!!

On the day Lord Krishna left the Earth, Dwapara Yuga ended, and Kali Yuga started.

The Pandavas carried the body of Lord Krishna and did the final rites at the Bay of Bengal. The whole body was cremated, but the heart remained good and stayed fresh. Pandavas offered the heart to the sea. It reached Puri and was placed inside the Lord Jagannath idol by King Indradyumna.

Every 12 years, the idols made of neem wood are replaced with new ones.

It is during this time that the heart of Krishna, which had been housed within the previous statue, is transferred into the new one. It is a widely held belief that the Priest who carries out the rite will die within a year or less and be reunited with the Lord after performing the rite.

The Priest is required to have his eyes covered throughout the process. Nobody else is permitted to watch the process.

The presence of Krishna's heart in the temple makes the beneficial energies exceptionally strong.
