Tithi is a lunar day in the Hindu lunar calendar. Technically, Tithi is the time taken by the Moon to increase its distance from the Sun by 12 degrees.
In the lunar calendar, the month is divided into two parts called Pakshas.
The period of 15 days from the next day of new Moon till full Moon (waning phase) is called Shukla Paksha and the the period of 15 days from the next day of full moon till new moon day (waxing phase) is called Krishna Paksha.
Two Pakshas totally comprise 30 Tithis.
The duration of Tithi can vary between 20 and 26 hours. Therefore, we can have more than one Tithi in a day.
